Native to China North-Central, China South-Central, China Southeast, Japan, Jawa, Korea, Lesser Sunda Is., Nansei-shoto, New Caledonia, New Guinea, Philippines, Sumatera, and Taiwan.

I pay homage to the male botanists Schoubert (I couldn’t find his records), Gaudichaud (I couldn’t find his records), Georg Roth, and William Hamilton, Arthur Andrew Hamilton, Alexander Greenlaw Hamilton, or Arthur Hamilton. They first catalogued me in 1790.
